Filipino woo-man

Just this morning, another controversial issue about Governor Chavit Singson was being discussed on television. I don't watch TV often because I am paranoid and I've been thinking that I have a high level of mean world syndrome, so in order to feel safe, I'd rather avoid watching television shows especially news programs.

I wasn't listening at first when I saw him on screen, I'm used to seeing Mr. Singson on TV explaining his side regarding national issues, but he was talking about something different this morning. According to the news, the former governor had beaten up his common law wife when he found out that she is having an affair with someone else. The woman sued the former governor of Ilocos Sur and accused of whipping her. As expected, the women's federation reacted on the incident and suggested the woman (whom they call Che) to file a domestic violence case against him. Mr. Singson's conversation with the TV host was somewhat funny or irritating. He was very safe with his answers and mock the host when he doesn't want to answer the question. He would say, "Bakit mo tinatanong, abodago ka ba?" or "Dapat mangyari sayo, para maintindihan mo.".

Mr. Singson would constantly say "Mabuti nga, hindi ko sila pinatay eh" in between his answers to every question that was being thrown to him.

I have few questions that I would like to raise now :What difference does it make when he betrayed his friend, Joseph Estrada that led to his forced resignation as president few years ago? Yes, you may say, these situations are two different things, and as a Filipino, I should feel glad that there is Chavit Singson to open the darkest cave of lies and corruption during Erap's administration. I've been hating Erap ever since, and I hated him even more when he ran for presidency, won, and being kicked out for stealing the fund of the Filipino masses. But this is not to say that I love Chavit for revealing all the wrongdoings of the former president. He may have served as the key to oust the cheat of the nation but I still never liked him for that. And now, there he is, complaining how deceitful his lover was for making him believe that she loves him when she was just needing his money from the start of their relationship. Well, we have a saying, 'when money talks, everybody listens.' Apparently, he and his colleagues have been having the best conversation with dollars and pesos. Why should I include money on this post? Simply because, Chavit was talking about huge amount of pesos during his conversation with the Umagang Kay Ganda TV host. Amazingly huge amount of money, enough to feed the street children, enough to build a school, enough to save the nation. Tsk, Chavit's woman might have probably been lying on a bed of cash, eating with a golden plate, and living on a glass house, enough to see the whole city and the faces of the people passing by and staring at their big mansion. A home where everything is visible... no wonder, she was able to see another man.

The second question is not an argument of how powerful Chavit Singson is to be capable of killing someone who did something offensive to him. It is an argument of who is what. The issue of domestic violence is highly considered and recognized on this case. Who found someone else? Who cheated? And who should take the blame for cheating behind someone else's back?

My man said, "Dapat lang mabugbog, nanloko eh".

A joke. Half meant.

So I asked, "So you mean to say you're going to beat me up if you find out that I'm having an affair with another man?"...with my hands on my waist.

"Why, are you going to find someone else?"

"Of course not".

"What if you will be the one to cheat, how am I going to beat you, you're stronger than I am".

A joke. With deep realization.

Apparently, I realized that the society still has and will always has a social hierarchy of gender. When Mr. Singson was asked if he is having an affair with other woman, he answered, "She knows that". What the heck! So why didn't his wife beat him up? Doesn't he deserve a whipping too?

to the lady who wears pink, admires Paris Hilton, and knows all the proper combination of make-up and outfits

... this is for you! no, i mean for us. because we are both woman in today's society. since we are living in a post modern world where all the things around us matter and all the simple and big things are always worthy of our attention. I wonder if you will give at least five minutes of your time to listen to this nonsense talk of a person who does not know how to wear off-shoulder clothes, hates high heeled shoes, and prefers to pay attention to politics rather than to the fashion shows on television.

I want to let you know that I admire you for making yourself attractive in spite of many problems that require your cooperation. I am glad that you are still able to buy 2000 worth of bag despite the economic crisis that the country is facing right now. Sometimes, I cant help but look at you when you are struggling to stand with confidence in a rocky path while wearing your 4-inch high heeled shoes. i want to hug you when you are wearing a backless dress when its already below zero degree outside. I am very concern with you and your health. I hope you know that.

I wish I could tell you that there are many intelligent people out there who will give you inspiration and teach you more than what you have anticipated. Those people you see on TV and those that are posted on your bedroom wall are undeniably beautiful. they are beautiful. and they are indeed influential because they are able to convince you to wear clothes that portray the exact opposite of your personality. no, i must not say that, because what you are doing right now are the things that you opted to do.

oops! don't get me wrong. i am not mad because you love those things or you admire those people. I am sad. because i know you can think more than that if you want to. you can act in a way that people will respect you. you can talk and make them listen to you. but you are just enjoying the idea that you are a woman which hinders you to do more than what is ordinary.

i may sound insecure in this article. but honestly, no. being naturally beautiful in today's society is one thing that women should be proud of. in the world of drugs, needles, and technology, we should be proud that we are able to maintain what God had given us. natural beauty.the world has been influenced with the marketers' plain consumerism and the influential demands make us think that being attractive is a necessity. you buy perfume not for its aroma but because of the affection and belonging that you may get by using it. you purchase short and strapless clothes not only because you need it when you attend to a certain event but because of the attention that people may give you once you wear it. these are all complicated. but this is the reality.

being a woman in a society is beyond the phrases that the society had taught you as you grow up. the world has been unconsciously offering answers and evidences to make you improve and stand with dignity and reputation in this constantly changing environment. beauty should be seen in every woman. that's right. you can be beautiful but you can be smart as well. don't be just a "woman" in the society. be a person with own principles and live with unbending determination.
